This past Friday (15 May) the Colorado Historic Preservation Review Board in Denver approved eight National Register of Historic Places nominations prepared by Front Range. One was a Multiple Property Documentation Form for Park County Cemeteries (Park County, Colorado). The document provides a historic context, describes cemetery types, and sets registration requirements for assessing National Register eligibility for cemeteries in the county.
The remaining seven individual and district nominations were for properties in Chaffee County, Colorado, including: the Comanche Drive-In Theater and Rock Ledge/Franzel Ranch (Buena Vista vicinity); the Kelley/McDonald House and Fay House (Buena Vista); the Commercial Hotel (Granite); and the Pedro/Botz House and Salida Livestock Commission Company (Salida vicinity). The diverse group of resources included nineteenth century houses, a hotel/stagestop, a 1967 drive-in theater, a 1958 livestock sale barn and corral complex, an 1880s ranch/farm, and a ca. 1904 house associated with eastern European workers at the Ohio and Colorado Smelter near Salida. The nominations will be forwarded for review by the National Park Service in Washington. |
