The National Park Service announced that seven Chaffee County resources had been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Included are: the William and Anna Fay House and Kelley/ McDonald House in Buena Vista; the Rock Ledge/Franzel Ranch west of Buena Vista; the Commercial Hotel in Granite; the Pedro/Botz House in Smeltertown near Salida; the Salida Livestock Commission Company east of Salida; and the Comanche Drive-In Theater west of Buena Vista. The Comanche was listed on August 3rd and the other six on July 27th. The 1967 Comanche Drive-In is only the fifth drive-in to be listed in the National Register in the entire country. Front Range undertook the project for the Greater Arkansas Nature Association with funding from the State Historical Fund.
