The formal dedication of San Jose de los Jemez and Giusewa Pueblo as New Mexico's 46th National Historic Landmark took place on May 16th. Making formal remarks were: Cabinet Secretary Veronica Gonzales, New Mexico Cultural Affairs Department; Governor Vincent A. Toya, Pueblo of Jemez; Superintendent Jason Lott, National Park Service, Bandelier National Monument; and Director Richard Sims, New Mexico Monuments. Following the ceremony, Jemez dancers performed the Eagle Dance and Jemez arts and crafts were on display. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar designated the the seventeenth century mission church of an NHL last October. Front Range prepared the nomination with archeologist Charles Haecker of the National Park Service.
