The first Trujillo Family Reunion took place in Alamosa, Colorado, this past weekend. In attendance were descendants of Teofilo Trujillo and his son, Pedro, whose homesteads in the northern part of the county were designated as a National Historic Landmark (NHL) in January 2012 by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. National Park Service staffers Fred Bunch and Kathy Faz of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve unveiled the NHL plaque at the reunion and showed a video featuring Trujillo descendants. Nomination preparers Tom and Laurie Simmons and Marilyn Martorano were in attendance. Tom delivered brief remarks on the significance of the property, noting that fewer than 2,600 resources throughout the nation are recognized as NHLs.
